The use of Accell in the Kikkoman wastewater pre-treatment facility had a significant cost savings effect.
This large producer of soy sauce employed a pre-treatment process for their wastewater for which the company was being charged an average of 20,000/month based on the contaminant levels (BOD and TSS). However, ongoing expansion of the production facility resulted in the plant exceeding the permitted discharge limits and was facing major capital expenditures for wastewater treatment process improvements. Using ACCELL at a rate of 18 mg/L to improve the efficiency of the facility, Kikkoman was able to reduce their BOD discharge by 60% and the TSS by 45%. As a result of these process improvements, the company was able to defer their capital improvements and reduce their surcharges by 65% to about $7,000/month.
